Environment of Care |
We are a community of learners centered
on developmentally appropriate educational and therapeutic
programming. Our culture is built on the relationship
principle which states that once connected with each
other and the world around us, we will thrive. The foundation
for our way of being is a focus on deliberately creating
opportunities to build within each of our clients the
40
Development Assets identified by the Search Institute
as essential to every young person's success. The 40
Developmental Assests are grouped into eight main categories:
Support, Empowerment, Positive Values, Positive Identity,
Constructive Use of Time, Commitment to Learning Boundaries
and Expectations and Social Competencies.
We specialize in addressing the unique
abilities and needs of Autistic/PDD children using the
practice of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) coupled
with the Development of Verbal Behavior (VB). We plan,
do and evaluate our strategies and activities with each
individual client daily to assure that we are meeting
our short term benchmarks and making progress towards
long term goal acquisition. We provide a low client
to staff ratio, carry over of classroom practices in
to teaching homes, and an overall milieu and reintergration
plan conducive to restoring family hope for a bright
future. |

Letter from the Director... |
| Established in June 2003 and operating with full
approval and license by August 2004, I'm proud to
say that Whispering Hills Achievement Center has
quickly become an elite community of professionals,
families and children.Working ten years as a special
education teacher opened my eyes to the difficulties
public schools face in trying to meet the needs
of all children. Eager to |
| make a difference and be a catalyst
for change, I obtained my Master's Degree in Educational
Administration. As a Director of Special Programs,
I worked diligently at the administrative level
for the following five years only to conclude that
public school was just not good enough for children
requiring specialized care, attention and highly
individualized instruction. In fact, after fifteen
years of frustrating dedication to my cause, I decided
to focus on the rainbow rather than the rain. My
journey led me somewhere over the rainbow to Whispering
Hills where I'm at last able to be a leader approaching
and embracing the education of special needs children
in a non-traditional manner. As a dreamer, believer
and master doer, I'm empowered daily as I observe
what a difference a unique setting, researched-based
program and multi-disciplinary team of motivated
and heart-centered specialists is making in the
lives of our clients and their families! My role
as Executive Director is to be the head learner
of our community. In order to assure our facility's
provision of the highest quality of care and education
that is available, I continue to further my own
study of best practices in service and treament
models for children with Autism and PDD with a current
focus on becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
Come see us in the beautiful countryside of South
Central Texas...we welcome the opportunity and
honor to serve you and yours!
